After the publication on Korabelov.info of a piece about younger pupils of the Mykolaiv Lyceum named after Oleh Olzhych in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv recording a video to the popular TikTok trend “six/seven”, the English teacher Kateryna Vitaliivna Chopenko contacted the editorial office.

Recall that in the previous article it was about the viral trend “six/seven”, which is actively spreading among children and teenagers. In the video, the lyceum’s younger-class students repeated hand movements to a popular track, which sparked discussion among readers and parents.

In her explanation, Kateryna Vitaliivna Chopenko noted that this video was not a spontaneous disruption of the educational process. According to her, the children had been waiting for it throughout the semester, and there was a prior agreement with the teacher: not to use the trend during lessons, and to receive the promised result at the end of the semester in the format of a joint video.

Kateryna Vitaliivna Chopenko explained that as an English teacher she believes modern education should not be boring or detached from the real lives of children.

“The children had been waiting for this video for the entire semester. There was a prior agreement with the teacher: students would not use this trend during lessons, and at the end of the semester they would receive the promised result. That is exactly how the agreement was carried out.

As an English teacher, I am firmly convinced that learning should not be boring or detached from the real lives of children.

Modern pupils live in a world of trends, gamified formats and quick emotions — and this can and should be used in education. That is why the lyceum’s second-graders adopted their own format of the viral trend “six/seven”, which has already begun to spread across schools and cities.

The idea is simple: as soon as the children hear “six seven” — the class instantly reacts with emotions, gestures and shouts. But so it does not interfere with the learning process, we agreed on a clear rule: during lessons — full concentration, no distractions, and at the end of the day — the opportunity to perform the trend in the format of a fun joint video.

Thus “six seven” became not a chaotic distraction, but a small school tradition that combines discipline and emotion.

Because modern education is about balance: structure in lessons and drive where appropriate. And most importantly — to keep up with the times together with the children”

Thus the teacher emphasizes: this story was not about children uncontrollably disrupting lessons with a popular meme, but about an attempt to use a trend relevant to pupils within the framework of an agreement and discipline.

In fact, the teacher presented this situation as an example of balance between education and lively child emotion: during lessons — order and concentration, after the agreement has been fulfilled — an opportunity for the children to express themselves in a format familiar to them.

This story is also instructive for parents. TikTok trends have long become part of the children’s environment, and it is almost impossible to completely shield pupils from them. But there is another way — not to allow them to destroy the learning process, but to channel them into a controlled format where there are rules, boundaries and responsibility.

In the case of the Mykolaiv Lyceum named after Oleh Olzhych this is precisely the explanation: the children received the promised video not instead of lessons, but after an agreement about discipline.
