In Lviv, as a result of a road traffic accident, a 36-year-old man and his 8-year-old daughter were injured. Both victims were hospitalized. The police have opened a criminal proceeding and are establishing all circumstances of the crash.

The accident occurred on August 20 at around 19:50 at the intersection of Vyhovskoho and Kulchytska streets. According to preliminary data from the Lviv Oblast Police, initially a 22-year-old BMW driver, a resident of Yavoriv district, ran over an 8-year-old girl.

After that, another BMW, driven by a 21-year-old Lviv resident, struck the child and her 36-year-old father.

Preliminarily, law enforcement established that the man and his daughter were crossing the roadway at a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing while the traffic light showed a prohibited signal.

Both drivers were tested for intoxication using a Dräger device. The results showed they were sober. Experts are currently determining the vehicles’ speeds.

Investigators of the department for investigating criminal proceedings involving children of the Lviv Oblast Police, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, opened proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns violations of road traffic safety rules or the operation of transport by persons who drive vehicles.

The penalty under the article provides for three to eight years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years or without such restriction. Law enforcement continue to clarify the details of the incident.
