In Khmelnytskyi region, a court found guilty a mother who for a long time did not seek medical help for her 15-year-old daughter, as a result of which the girl ended up in intensive care with severe sepsis and multiple necrotic tissue lesions, and the punishment was set as 2 years of restriction of liberty with a probation period of 1 year.

Law enforcement and the regional prosecutor’s office informed about the circumstances of the case, publishing details on their pages online.

Investigators established that in February the teenager began to complain about her health, and the mother tried to treat her on her own without consulting specialists, despite the lack of improvement in her condition.

In April, when the girl’s condition suddenly worsened, the woman called an emergency medical team, which hospitalized the patient to intensive care in serious condition; doctors diagnosed severe sepsis with a risk of multiple organ dysfunction and multiple necrotic wounds.

During the trial the accused pleaded guilty and expressed remorse, after which she was convicted of willful failure to fulfill duties regarding child care under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced to restriction of liberty for 2 years with a probation period of 1 year.

According to law enforcement, the girl’s condition has now improved, she continues treatment, has expressed a desire to continue living with her mother, and the family has been registered by social services for further support.
