September 11 in the history of the Korabelnyi District and Mykolaiv is connected to the shipbuilding heritage of the Okean plant, the appearance of new sports grounds, the history of Bohoyavlensk, city celebrations and the memory of a young defender who died in Donbas. And already in 2025 on this day the building of Mykolaiv’s Main Post Office was sold at auction.
September 11, 2012: a model of Okean’s dry dock was unveiled at a Korabelnyi school
At School No.1 named after Oleh Olzhych in the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv they held a ceremonial assembly and unveiled a large model of the Okean plant’s dry dock. The event was dedicated, among other things, to the 40th anniversary of the dock entering service and the 60th anniversary of the launch of the plant’s first vessel; the plant confirms that one of the largest dry docks in Europe began operating in 1972.
September 11, 2013: installation of a skate park began in Korabelnyi
Equipment for a skate park was brought to the new “Korabelnyi” Sports Park near the “Vodoliy” pool for the site. The technical team was due to complete the installation within the next 2 days, but local children began testing the site before the work was finished. The project was implemented by the NGO “Alter-Sport,” which received a grant for it.
September 11, 2013: a renovated playground opened in Kulbakine
In the Kulbakine neighborhood on Raiduzhna Street, 34, they opened a reconstructed children’s and sports playground. The initiative to restore it came from former Kulbakine resident Alyona Oleksandrivna Rykova-Kras, who at that time lived in Belgium and decided to help the district where she spent her childhood.
September 11, 2013: a book about Bohoyavlensk was presented in Korabelnyi
At Branch Library No.18 on Korabeliv Avenue, 12, a presentation took place for a book devoted to the history of Bohoyavlensk — the oldest part of modern Mykolaiv. Korabelov.info announced the meeting with the author Natalia Oleksandrivna Kukhar-Onyshko; the publication included archival photographs and documents, including materials from local historians.
September 11, 2016: families of schoolchildren competed in “Fun Starts”
As part of the celebration of Mykolaiv Day in the Korabelnyi District they held family “Fun Starts.” Families of students from Schools No.44, No.48, No.54, No.49, No.14 and Gymnasium No.3 took part; the Vasylenko family won.
September 11, 2022: alumnus from Korabelnyi Dmytro Oleksandrovych Kotsan was killed
Near the village of Pisky in Donetsk region, in a battle with Russian forces, 25-year-old Dmytro Oleksandrovych Kotsan, call sign “Minus” — a grenadier of the “Sarmat” battalion, and a former student of School No.54 and Gymnasium No.3 in the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv — was killed. Korabelov.info reported that after the start of the full-scale invasion he returned from Poland to Ukraine and went back to fight.
September 11, 2025: the Main Post Office in Mykolaiv was sold for UAH 32.1 million
The Main Post Office building on Admiralska Street, 27/1, was sold at an electronic auction for UAH 32.1 million with a starting price of about UAH 6.6 million. 11 participants took part in the bidding, and the winner was LLC “Bne beytha.”
This day in Ukraine and the world
On September 11, 2023 the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported the return to Ukrainian control of drilling platforms in the Black Sea known as the “Boyko rigs,” which Russia had seized back in 2015. And on September 11, 2001 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked 4 passenger planes in the United States: the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania claimed the lives of 2,977 people, as the 9/11 National Memorial reminds.
September 11 has left very different memories for the Korabelnyi District: from the Okean dry dock, the skate park, the Kulbakine playground and the book about Bohoyavlensk to the war that took the life of a young graduate of the local gymnasium.
