In Mykolaiv, 8 young cherry trees were planted in “Young Heroes” Park. This continues the “Give a Tree to the City” initiative, which aims to make urban spaces greener. The saplings were purchased and donated to the park by the Danish Refugee Council.

Those who took part in planting the trees included:

  • Oleksandr Senkevych — Mayor of Mykolaiv;
  • Serhii Koreniev — Deputy Mayor;
  • the city’s international partners.

The initiative began in the spring with employees of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, who bought saplings with their own money and planted them. The campaign continued in the autumn with support from international partners.

Those who took part in the autumn greening initiative included:

  • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP);
  • Danish Refugee Council;
  • the Save the Children foundation;
  • Ukrainian-Danish Youth House.

In total, the partners purchased more than 60 saplings of various tree species. Along with the cherry trees in the park, some have already been planted on Flotskyi Boulevard: 30 maples and willows purchased by UNDP were planted there earlier. The remaining trees will be planted later this autumn.

Oleksandr Senkevych thanked the international partners and emphasized the importance of their support for the city. He noted that their assistance extends beyond greening Mykolaiv to include infrastructure restoration and support for socially vulnerable residents.

Coordination with the partners and the tree planting was organized by the Mykolaiv Development Agency.
