The tigress that escaped from Mykolaiv Zoo has been captured
Searches suspended until morning due to worker fatigue
Yesterday, a small tigress that had escaped from the Mykolaiv Zoo was found and captured. The animal is 4.5 months old.
“Caught her. Everyone can stand down tomorrow,” wrote Mykolaiv Zoo director Volodymyr Topchii on social media, posting a photo of the captured tigress.
The animal escaped from the zoo on the night between Saturday and Sunday, squeezing between the bars of the fence. The search was suspended until morning because zoo staff were tired. Volunteers were going to be brought in to continue the search, but after the tigress was found, their help was no longer needed.
Despite her small size compared with an adult tiger, at this age the animal is already a predator and can pose a danger to people. She can injure someone with her teeth and claws, suddenly lunge or bite if frightened, if someone approaches, or if someone tries to catch her. Children are especially vulnerable, so a cub like this cannot be considered safe for people.
