In the Mykolaiv region, a serviceman kicked a woman in the head after she insulted his wife

After a nighttime conflict near a karaoke bar the victim fell to the ground, but the attacker continued to strike her with his boot and refused to apologize

Voznesensk City District Court of Mykolaiv Region found a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine guilty of intentionally inflicting minor bodily injuries on a woman near a karaoke bar. For a punch to the face and at least two kicks to the victim’s head while she was already lying on the ground, the court imposed on the man a fine of only 850 hryvnias.

The verdict in the case No. 473/3376/26, proceedings No. 1-кп/473/334/2026, was rendered on 27 July 2026 in the city of Voznesensk. Criminal proceedings No. 12026153190000091 were initiated under Part 1 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The hearing was held in open session by videoconference with the Ochakiv City District Court of Mykolaiv Region.

The defendant is a native of the city of Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Region. At the time of the incident he was serving under contract as a rifleman-assistant grenadier of the second platoon of one of the military units and held the military rank of seaman.

The man is married, supports a minor child and had no unexpunged convictions. He was characterized satisfactorily at his place of residence and military service.

According to the case materials, the attack occurred on 14 June 2026 at approximately 23:00 on the premises near the karaoke bar “KARMEN VERANDA”, located at Sukhomlynskyi Street, 2/Ж, in the city of Voznesensk.

The victim was in the establishment that evening with friends who were celebrating one woman’s birthday. The defendant and his wife were seated at another table.

After the bar closed, a conflict arose between the serviceman and the woman. The court found that the man, standing opposite the victim, intentionally struck her with his left fist on the right side of her face.

From the blow the woman fell to the ground. However, the attacker did not stop: when the victim was already lying down, he struck her at least twice with the right boot to the left side of her head.

The victim was diagnosed with a bruise on the skin behind the left auricle, a bruise in the right zygomatic area and two scratches.

According to the forensic medical examination conclusion No. 137 dated 15 June 2026, the injuries resulted from at least two traumatic impacts by blunt objects. The expert did not rule out that the injuries were inflicted by a fist and a shod foot.

The consequences of the injuries lasted no more than 6 days, so they were classified as minor bodily injuries. The expert also noted that the nature and location of the injuries make it impossible for them to have arisen solely from falling from a vertical position onto a hard surface.

The defendant fully admitted guilt in court and confirmed the circumstances of the attack. At the same time, he refused to apologize to the woman, explaining that she had allegedly insulted his wife.

“He admits that by his actions he committed a criminal offense, but he has no intention of apologizing to the victim ОСОБА_5, since the victim ОСОБА_5 insulted his wife ОСОБА_7”.

The victim confirmed that she was first struck with a fist to the face, after which she fell, and then the defendant struck her twice with his boot to the head.

Her testimony was corroborated by the results of the forensic medical examination, photo-identification protocols and investigative experiments involving the victim and four witnesses.

All four witnesses during identification pointed to the defendant as the man who hit the woman in the face and then kicked her in the head when she was lying on the ground.

The court concluded that the serviceman’s guilt was fully proven and qualified his actions under Part 1 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as intentional minor bodily injury.

At the same time, the court found no circumstances that would mitigate or aggravate the punishment. It separately took into account that the man has a family, a minor child, is not registered with a psychiatrist or narcologist and has no unexpunged convictions.

As a result, the serviceman was found guilty and fined 50 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, which amounts to 850 hryvnias.

He must pay the funds in favor of the state represented by the Voznesensk City Territorial Community.

The victim did not file a civil claim. There were no procedural costs or physical evidence in the proceedings, and no preventive measure was applied to the defendant.

Thus, for a punch to the face and at least two kicks to the head of a woman who was already lying on the ground, the serviceman received a fine of 850 hryvnias.

The verdict may still be appealed to the Mykolaiv Court of Appeal through the Voznesensk City District Court of Mykolaiv Region within 30 days from the date of its announcement.
