Fakes about street fighting appeared in the “Air Alert” app
The Air Force warned of a possible hostile influence operation
Users of the official Ukrainian Air Alert app began receiving false warnings about street fighting and radiation and chemical hazards on the evening of November 1. The Ukrainian Air Force and the Center for Strategic Communications responded to the alerts.
The military issued the following statement:
“The Air Alert app has likely been affected by hostile interference. There is no radiation threat. Stay calm and follow our updates on our channel!” the Ukrainian Air Force said.
The Center’s statement, meanwhile, specifically said the app had been hacked by Russia:
“The Russians have hacked the Air Alert app. If you see strange messages in the app, don’t panic. Rely on official channels for air-raid alerts,” the Center for Strategic Communications said.
