Military property worth nearly 900,000 is missing: negligence case under investigation in Mykolaiv
A former warehouse manager has been charged and is partially reimbursing the losses
In Mykolaiv, a former head of a military unit’s logistics company warehouse has been notified of suspicion of improperly performing his official duties during martial law. According to investigators, the lack of proper record-keeping at the warehouse led to a shortage of military property worth nearly UAH 900,000.
The violations under investigation span the period from January 2022 to July 2025. According to investigators, the warehouse chief issued items without the required paperwork, failed to maintain inventory and movement logs for supplies, and did not prepare issue records. He is also accused of failing to properly oversee the storage of the property.
A shortage of items intended to equip service members was discovered at the military unit’s warehouse. The missing property included:
- more than 200 sets of field uniforms;
- 248 armor plates;
- more than 140 combat shirts;
- 123 sleeping bags;
- more than 440 belts;
- raincoats;
- insulated jackets;
- hearing protection;
- load-bearing equipment and other items.
Investigators consider the consequences to extend beyond losses to the state: in their assessment, the shortage adversely affected the military unit’s staffing and combat readiness under martial law.
In proceedings conducted by the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region, the former service member’s actions have been classified under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as negligent treatment of military service under martial law resulting in substantial harm.
The suspect is currently partially reimbursing the state for the losses. His guilt must be established in accordance with the procedure provided by law.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the First Department of the Territorial Office of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv. Operational support is provided by officers of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
