Neighborly passions over a dog: in Mykolaiv a woman stabbed another woman in the abdomen with a knife
A 26-year-old mother stabbed a neighbor whose dog was keeping her child from sleeping
In Mykolaiv, an ordinary dispute between neighbors over a dog that was kept on a leash in the common corridor of an apartment building ended in a serious stabbing. Law enforcement officers notified the 26-year-old woman of suspicion of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm. A report about the seriously injured woman was received by operators of the emergency line 102 from the victim’s son on July 16, 2026 at about 22:10.
Operatives, patrol police officers, the investigative-operational group of Police Station No. 2 Mykolaiv District Directorate, as well as specialists from the forensic laboratory of the investigative department of the regional police headquarters arrived at the scene.
During initial actions, law enforcement officers established that a domestic dispute arose between the two women. The cause of the conflict was a dog that the 44-year-old victim kept on a leash in the shared corridor. According to the investigation, the animal disturbed the child of the 26-year-old neighbor. During the confrontation the quarrel escalated, and the younger woman stabbed her opponent in the abdomen.
The injured woman was urgently taken to the hospital by an emergency medical team. She underwent surgery and is currently in a postoperative condition. Forensic specialists collected traces and other evidence at the crime scene. Investigators also seized the knife that, according to law enforcement, was used to inflict the wound. The weapon will be sent for expert examination.
With the agreement of the City District Prosecutor’s Office of Mykolaiv, investigators notified the 26-year-old woman of suspicion under part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “Intentional grievous bodily harm.” The article’s sanction provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years. The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future.
