Fake student for $10,000: a female lecturer promised a man three years without mobilization

In Kyiv, an associate professor at one of the capital’s universities was notified of suspicion of receiving $10,000 for arranging the fake enrollment of a man subject to military service. According to the investigation, student status was supposed to secure him a deferment from mobilization for three years. On July 27, 2026 reported the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement established that the lecturer promised to arrange the man’s enrollment in a college affiliated with the university in the specialty “technology management”. The education was to be only formal: the man, according to the suspect, would not have to attend classes or independently take exam sessions. Assistance with all exam sessions was supposedly already included in the price of the “service”.

For the enrollment and further handling of study-related matters the associate professor, according to investigators, demanded $10,000. Separately the man was to officially pay another 35,000 hryvnias per year for tuition. In total it was to last three years, during which the man subject to military service expected to use the deferment from mobilization.

“During a personal meeting the woman explained the procedure for processing the documents and euphemistically named the money she wanted for her services — “10 kilograms of currants”,– the prosecutors said.

The associate professor was detained immediately after receiving the illicit benefit. She was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: receiving an illicit benefit for influencing a decision by a person authorized to exercise state functions, combined with extortion.

The court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of 24-hour house arrest. The name of the university where the woman works was not specified in the prosecutor’s official statement. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and her guilt must be proven by a conviction of the court.
