On this day in Ukraine: October 28, 1944
This day is traditionally observed in remembrance of those who took part in driving the Nazi occupiers out of Ukraine. Nazi forces did not fully withdraw from the territory of modern Ukraine until late November 1944. At the same time, Ukraine remained under the rule of the Soviet totalitarian regime.
