Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Police, uncovered 4 new schemes to evade mobilization and illegally transfer servicemen to “rear” positions in several regions of the country, the SBU press service reported.

The agency noted that the operations were carried out in coordination with the Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the law enforcement actions were aimed both at stopping paid intermediary services and at documenting abuses by certain military officials.

According to the investigation, in the Chernihiv region the commander of one military unit, for a fee, transferred mobilized personnel from combat units to the garrison of Chernihiv. Law enforcement recorded that in this way he moved at least 3 servicemen to the “rear” and received almost 2 million UAH for it.

In the Zhytomyr region, the commander of one of the Armed Forces brigades was detained for placing acquaintances and relatives into his unit. Formally these people were considered mobilized, but in fact they did not serve and stayed at home, while the officer, according to the investigation, took subordinates’ bank cards and appropriated their payments, ultimately receiving about 370 thousand hryvnias.

In the Khmelnytskyi region, the deputy commander of a training center of the Armed Forces was charged; the investigation suspects him of organizing transfers of mobilized personnel to rear units for 5 thousand dollars. He is accused of promising to prepare recommendation letters and of influencing acquaintance commanders to carry out such “transfers”.

In the Lviv region, a contract serviceman of one of the border detachments was detained on bribery charges. According to investigators, he offered those liable for military service removal from the military register for 16 thousand dollars through a fictitious declaration of unfitness for service due to health, and certain officials of the TRCs were involved in implementing the scheme.

The subjects of the proceedings were notified of suspicion under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including embezzlement of property, abuse of influence, exceeding official powers, and facilitating evasion of military service. Investigative actions continue; the suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
