The ceasefire zone in Oleshky, Kherson region, now also covers areas outside the city. The expansion is intended to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian convoys delivering essential aid to civilians.
The truce between Ukraine and Russia took effect on the night of October 27 and is set to last until November 1. The agreement was reached with the mediation of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. According to her, the original timeline was changed: the ceasefire began two days earlier than planned.
According to available reports, residents of Oleshky are facing severe shortages of food, electricity, medical care, and other necessities.
“To protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of critically needed humanitarian aid, the geographic scope of the ceasefire has been extended beyond Oleshky in Kherson region. This is necessary to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian convoys,” said U.S. First Lady Melania Trump.
Residents of the city will also be able to leave for territory controlled by Ukraine. A ceasefire is being observed in the Oleshky area to allow this. In addition to delivering aid, the humanitarian mission includes preparing a road for safe passage.
