In Mykolaiv Oblast, a man raped his 14-year-old niece — was sentenced to 10 years in prison

In Mykolaiv Oblast a court found a previously convicted man guilty of raping his 14-year-old niece. He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment under part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The crime occurred on 26 March 2025. As proven in court by juvenile prosecutors from the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the man, who is a serviceman, was in a Volkswagen with his niece, where he raped the girl.

The victim managed to get away when another car drove by. She first told her aunt, then her mother, after which she contacted law enforcement authorities.

During the trial the man pleaded not guilty. He claimed that the victim allegedly performed sexual acts towards him and that the accusation was fabricated because of the family’s difficult financial situation.

The court found these explanations unfounded. The man’s guilt was confirmed by the body of evidence examined: witness testimony from people who saw the girl immediately after the incident, results of the examination of the crime scene and the car, findings of forensic medical, immunological, and psychological examinations, as well as other materials in the criminal proceedings.

As a result of the proceedings, the court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment.

At the same time, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office filed an appeal against the verdict regarding the additional punishment. The prosecution is also asking to strip the convicted man of his special military rank.
