An 82-year-old grandfather is suspected of raping a 10-year-old: the child recorded a video
The school psychologist notified the police about the incident; the child is being assisted at the Protection Center under the Barnahus model
In the Vinnytsia region on May 29 an 82-year-old resident of the Orativ community was charged with the rape of a 10-year-old girl, and the court ordered his detention without the possibility of posting bail.
The incident was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, which clarified that the suspect is a distant relative of the victim’s family, lived nearby and had periodic contact with them.
According to the investigation, several weeks ago the man came to the child’s home when the parents were not at home, led her into an outbuilding and committed sexual violence against her.
The girl initially perceived the adult’s actions as a game and did not try to run away, but she recorded what was happening on a mobile phone. The school psychologist learned about the existence of the video and contacted law enforcement.
The suspect was promptly detained, and physical evidence was seized during investigative actions. Prosecutors of the Nemyriv District Prosecutor’s Office notified him of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
By court decision the man was placed in custody with no option for bail. Specialists at the Child Protection Center are working with the child under the “Barnahus” model to provide comprehensive assistance.
