To keep going for as long as necessary: 63% of Ukrainians are prepared to endure the war
Sentiment has barely changed compared with the previous October poll
Most participants in a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary. At the same time, about one in five believe they can hold on for only the next few months or six months.
Responses to the question of how much longer respondents were willing to endure the war were distributed as follows:
- 63% — for as long as necessary;
- 21% — a few months or about six months;
- 5% — another year;
- 11% — could not give an answer.
A strong willingness to continue resisting is characteristic of all regions of Ukraine. In Kyiv, where residents are also under constant pressure because of the war, most respondents said they were ready to hold on for as long as needed.
A comparison with the previous survey, conducted from October 8–16, shows that public sentiment has barely changed. The population’s readiness to endure the war remains high, despite international pressure on Ukraine and ongoing Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.
We previously reported:
- 61% of Ukrainians categorically oppose handing Donbas over to Russia in exchange for security guarantees — poll
- Despite Russian terror, most Ukrainians are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary
- 82% believe in Ukraine’s victory, but only 22% expect the war to end by the end of the year
- Faith in victory is declining: only 73% of Ukrainians believe Russia will be defeated, while 55% want peace at any cost
- 36% of Mykolaiv residents are ready to endure the war “for as long as necessary” (poll)
