Five marriages in three pretrial detention centers in a few days: two couples in Kharkiv and Lviv, another — in Mykolaiv

In recent days, marriage ceremonies were held in the detention centers and correctional facilities of Kharkiv, Lviv and Mykolaiv: inmates officially registered relationships, exercising their right to start a family despite being in custody.

At the Kharkiv detention center, 2 inmates were officially married to their chosen partners. For the newly formed couples this event became an expression of trust, love and a desire to build a shared future, despite difficult life circumstances.

At the Lviv Penal Institution No. 19, 2 marriages were registered in a single day. The ceremonies were made possible through cooperation between the institution’s administration and the Halych Department of the State Civil Registration Service.

At the Mykolaiv detention center, a female inmate registered a marriage. The procedure was carried out with the participation of representatives from the city Department of the State Civil Registration Service, and her husband will wait at liberty, keeping his promise to overcome difficulties together.

In Lviv and Mykolaiv the ceremonies took place with the participation of civil registry units, which made it possible to ensure all necessary legal formalities for contracting marriages within penal institutions.

The penitentiary service reminded that every person’s right to start a family is guaranteed by the state, and it also extends to those who are held in places of detention.
