Crafts and Face Painting with an Eco-Lesson: How Halloween Was Celebrated in Mykolaiv
At EcoRoom, a school student spoke about the impact of microplastics on the Inhul River
This week in Mykolaiv, the EcoRoom hosted children and young people for Halloween-themed events. The celebrations were combined with environmental education: participants learned how to reduce waste and use resources more efficiently.
Visitors to the space included:
- students from various lyceums, accompanied by their teachers and parents;
- first- and second-year students from Mykolaiv Construction College.
Guests were shown how EcoRoom works. During themed workshops, they made crafts by hand and also tried face painting.
The environmental part of the program focused, among other things, on the 3R rule. It brings together these principles:
- Reduce — cut back: limit purchases to what you need and avoid generating unnecessary waste;
- Reuse — use again: find new uses for things instead of throwing them away;
- Recycle — recycle: sort waste and send it for recycling.
Mykola Zapalskyi, a 10th-grade student at Lyceum No. 38, also presented his research. Titled “Microplastics: A Global Environmental and Medical Problem,” it explored the effects of microplastics on the environment, with a focus on the waters of the Inhul River.
Through interactive activities and the holiday program, children and young people discussed not only the environment, but also energy efficiency and conscious consumption.
