Putin and Xi announced unprecedented relations: Russia — a supplier of resources, China — a responsible consumer
In Beijing, they called their tandem a counterbalance to the "law of the jungle" and, referring to the friendship treaty, announced their intention to jointly change the rules of global governance
In Beijing a meeting took place between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping: the leaders held talks in a small private meeting and stated that relations between Russia and China are at a very high, in Putin’s assessment — an unprecedented level.
During the public part of the conversation, Putin emphasized that bilateral ties have reached a previously unseen mark and described them as an example of comprehensive partnership.
He also said that against the backdrop of escalation in the Middle East, Beijing, in his view, can rely on Russia as a reliable supplier of energy resources, while China, at the same time, acts as a responsible consumer.
The Kremlin chief added that the interaction of the two states, in his words, is one of the key stabilizing factors on the international stage, since the parties declare a desire for a more just world order and the reform of the global system.
Xi Jinping, for his part, noted the high level of bilateral relations, warned of the risk of the world reverting to the so-called law of the jungle, and emphasized that the significance of the treaty on friendship and cooperation is now manifested particularly clearly.
The Chinese leader also stressed that it is China and Russia, in his view, who should participate in forming a fairer system of global governance.
