Schools in the Mykolaiv region will not receive a full set of paper textbooks for the 2026/2027 school year for ninth-grade students before the start of the year. The region is missing almost 112 thousand copies. This was discussed during the official broadcast of the meeting of the standing committee of the Mykolaiv Regional Council on science and education. The meeting took place on 18 August 2026.

So far the Mykolaiv region has received only about 32% of the required print run. As the commission chair Yevhen Horburov explained, some of the already printed books were stored in a warehouse that was attacked by Russian forces.

“They hit the warehouse there, a missile struck — and that’s it,” — said Yevhen Horburov.

The director of the Department of Education and Science of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration (OVA) Alla Velikhovska reported that the Ministry of Education and Science is aware of the problem. Funds are now being sought to reprint the required edition.

At the same time, producing and delivering all the books to schools will not be completed by September 1. While paper copies are lacking, students and teachers will have to use electronic versions of the textbooks.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education and Science in response to a request from hromadske reported that as a result of Russian strikes on 19 July at a printing enterprise in Kyiv and on 1 August at a logistics warehouse in Kharkiv, about a million textbooks were destroyed. Print runs of books for fourth and ninth grades were affected, some of which had already been prepared for shipment to schools. Reprinting and delivery may take at least two months. From 1 September, electronic versions of the textbooks and their supplements are to be available on the “All-Ukrainian School Online” platform.
