Football or water polo? The "Molodizhny" Stadium in Korabelnyi is once again underwater
The championship is starting, but the field is flooded: in the Korabelnyi district, children are once again waiting not for the ball, but for the water to be pumped out
In the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv, the long-standing problem with the “Molodizhny” stadium at the Children and Youth Sports School No. 5 (DYuSSh No. 5), located at Pryozerna Street, 2, has flared up again. A resident, Yuliya Imanova, contacted the editorial office of “Korabelov.Info” and reported that the water level on the stadium grounds is constantly rising, effectively flooding the football field.
According to the author of the appeal, the cause of the problem is a neglected small river that runs along the stadium. It has become overgrown with reeds, silted up, and as a result the water overflows its banks and floods the area where children are supposed to train.
Because of the flooding, the pupils of DYuSSh No. 5 cannot fully conduct their training at the stadium. This is especially painful now, as the City and Regional Championship is about to start. For young athletes, the lack of a proper football field is not just an inconvenience but a blow to their preparation, development, and sporting skills.
The editorial office was alerted to the problem by Yuliya Imanova, who is asking for publicity because, she says, appeals to the responsible authorities have so far produced no result.
“Good afternoon, dear editorial staff!
We ask you to publicize this; perhaps with your help we will be able to reach our authorities! We are knocking on every door, result 0((On the grounds of the “Molodizhny” stadium at DYuSSh No. 5, located at Pryozerna St. 2 in Mykolaiv, there is a constant rise in the water level leading to flooding of the stadium where children are supposed to train.
This is caused by the lack of maintenance of a small river that runs along the site. This river has become overgrown with reeds and silted up, which has led to the river overflowing its banks and flooding the “Molodizhny” stadium.
To date, children cannot go out for training at the stadium. And now the City and Regional Championship is about to start. The inability of children to train at the stadium affects their development and professional skills. Please note that the children who train at DYuSSh No. 5 constantly take prize places at many tournaments.
Water constantly stands on the football field, which makes it impossible to hold training sessions for children. Sanitary conditions are deteriorating, an unpleasant smell appears, and the number of insects increases.”
This story for the Korabelnyi District is far from new. “Korabelov.Info” as early as June 8, 2013 wrote that after heavy rains the “Molodezhny” stadium in “Bogoyavlensky” Park was flooded: the entire football field of DYuSSh No. 5 and the pathways were covered with water. Back then it was not a one-off puddle episode but a systemic problem of the area where water collects after precipitation.
In 2018, parents of pupils at DYuSSh No. 5 also complained that water stands on the stadium and the drainage problem has not been resolved for years. Old publications from the editorial office mentioned that without drainage, cleaning and proper water removal any repairs may prove pointless.
A separate worrying detail: as early as 2017, at a city council session it was discussed that UEFA at one time refused to build a modern football field on this site precisely because of the water problem. At that time officials said outright that “water stands there.”
So the current appeal from parents and residents is not breaking news but a recurrence of an old painful problem that has been dragging on for years: children need to train, teams need to prepare for competitions, and the stadium is again turning into a swampy area with standing water, odor and insects.
The question now to the responsible services and the city authorities of Mykolaiv is: who will finally clean the river, ensure proper drainage, and return normal training conditions to the children at the “Molodizhny” stadium?
