In Mykolaiv region, a drunk driver overturned an Opel and fled: a passenger killed, a teenager injured

Law enforcement officers located the 39-year-old driver at his place of residence; under part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a ten-year driving ban

On the Dnipro–Mykolaiv highway near the village of Dobra Krynytsia in the Inhul community on the evening of June 1 at about 21:40, an Opel Omega overturned: the driver was a 39-year-old man in a state of severe intoxication who fled the scene of the accident; a passenger was killed, a teenager was injured, and the driver was later detained by the police.

According to the communications department of the Mykolaiv region police, the vehicle left the roadway and overturned on a section of the highway within the Inhul community, as reported in an official statement.

At the scene, a 45-year-old passenger was killed, and a 15-year-old boy with moderate injuries was hospitalized.

Police established that the driver left the scene; with the help of analysts from the criminal analysis department they traced him to his place of residence, and an inspection recorded 3.03 per mille of alcohol.

The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine; charges are being prepared against him under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road safety rules while intoxicated that caused the death of a victim, which is punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive for the same term.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
