The SBU is searching Mykolaiv police officers: investigating possible involvement in drug trafficking and robberies

Proceedings have been opened under Articles 307 and 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; the regional leadership of the NPU promises full cooperation and punishment of those responsible

In the morning of 31 May in Mykolaiv, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine began searches and other investigative actions as part of a criminal proceeding opened on facts related to the illegal circulation of drugs and robberies.

The Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region reported that the investigation is being conducted under Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal manufacture, possession, transportation and sale of narcotic drugs) and Art. 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery, that is the open theft of another person’s property).

According to preliminary information, among the individuals whose possible involvement is being checked in this proceeding are some police officers.

The agency noted that all procedural actions are being coordinated between law enforcement bodies and are carried out with the full cooperation of the leadership of the regional office of the National Police.

Law enforcement authorities emphasize their interest in a comprehensive, objective and impartial clarification of the circumstances of the case.

The leadership of the Mykolaiv regional police stresses a principled position on preventing any violations of the law among personnel.

If the involvement of police officers in the alleged crimes is confirmed, the guilty will be held accountable in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.

Investigative actions are ongoing, and members of the media and the public are urged to refrain from premature conclusions and await the official results of the investigation.
