In Sumy, a 60-year-old man will be tried for wounding six teenagers with a shotgun over a bench
Qualification — attempted intentional murder motivated by hooliganism; the accused was intoxicated
In Sumy, the regional prosecutor’s office has sent an indictment to court against a 60-year-old local resident who, according to investigators, while intoxicated opened fire with a shotgun and wounded 6 teenagers in the courtyard of an apartment building on December 9, 2025.
According to investigators, the man demanded that the group of teenagers vacate the bench near the entrance, and when they did not respond, he returned to his apartment, took a smoothbore shotgun IZH-43 loaded with homemade cartridges, and, having stepped out onto the landing of the 10th floor, aimed and fired toward the group.
As a result of the shooting, four girls and two boys aged from 13 to 16 were injured.
The head of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Oleksandr Panchenko, approved the indictment and sent it to court; the agency reported this on its Telegram channels, in particular on the pages of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The suspect’s actions have been qualified as an attempt to intentionally kill 6 children, committed with hooligan motives.
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court; this is enshrined in Art. 62.
