An outbreak of acute intestinal infection has been recorded in the Mykolaiv region: after a memorial meal in the village of Lukanivka in Pervomaiskyi district, 13 people were taken to hospitals during 23–24 May.

The cases were reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, publishing a message on its Facebook page at the link here.

Medical staff clarified that the affected people were sent to the infectious disease departments of hospitals in Pervomaiskyi district and the town of Vradiivka, where they sought help at different times over the two days.

The hospitalized patients showed fever, nausea, repeated vomiting, diarrhea occurring 4–7 times per day, and abdominal pain, consistent with the clinical presentation of acute intestinal infection.

Specialists have launched an epidemiological investigation: they are collecting samples of food, water and surface swabs for laboratory testing, compiling a full list of dishes consumed by participants of the memorial meal, and examining the persons who prepared the food.

At the same time, an active search for additional potential cases among event participants and their contacts has been organized to prevent further spread of the infection.

Relevant services and local authorities have been involved to coordinate actions on site, monitor sanitary conditions and provide necessary support to medical teams.

The source of the pathogen and routes of transmission are currently being established, and the situation is under constant observation. Earlier, 4 outbreaks of acute intestinal infections were already recorded in Mykolaiv and the region, as previously reported at the link here.
