Five scenarios of a Russian offensive: Ukraine strengthens its northern defenses
After analyzing the intelligence at the Headquarters, response plans for each direction were approved; the special services received non-public assignments
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, following a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s headquarters, said that Russia is working out 5 scenarios to expand the war in the Chernihiv and Kyiv directions, and Ukraine is strengthening the defense of the north and preparing responses for each of the possible variants of the enemy’s actions.
At this meeting they analyzed Ukrainian intelligence data on potential offensive operations by the Russian Federation to forecast the most likely moves of the enemy and determine defense priorities in advance.
The head of state reported that the responsible agencies are already consolidating a package of measures into a single system to deter any attempts at escalation from the north, including strengthening cover at vulnerable sections and preparing countermeasures.
“Ukraine will definitely defend itself, and now our task is to strengthen the state so that none of the five Russian scenarios for expanding the war through northern Ukraine will work,” said President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to Zelensky, response plans have already been developed for each of the possible directions of Russian forces’ actions, and Ukraine also intends to increase the number of forces and assets on the northern axis.
In addition, the president instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare additional diplomatic steps regarding Belarus, since, according to Kyiv, its territory may be used by Russia for further expansion of aggression.
“There are also relevant non-public tasks for the Ukrainian intelligence services,” added the head of state.
