The US proposes talks with Ukraine and Russia by the end of October: Kyiv is ready
A technical meeting may be held in the UAE or another country
The United States proposed to hold a technical meeting involving Ukraine, Russia and the American side by the end of October. Ukraine is ready to join such a format. The proposal was described by President Volodymyr Zelensky after a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The United Arab Emirates could serve as the venue for the talks. The Ukrainian side is also ready for a meeting in another country proposed by the United States.
Earlier, Zelensky spoke with the US negotiating team. According to him, US representatives are now maintaining contacts with both Ukraine and Russia. The president described Ukraine’s position as follows:
“We’ll wait for a response. We respond positively to negotiations.”
A separate negotiating initiative concerns the Black Sea: Turkey, together with the UN, is preparing a new round of talks between Ukraine and Russia about a ceasefire. Its goal is to guarantee the safe delivery of grain amid rising prices on global markets.
Earlier, partners proposed that Russia agree to a ceasefire or a moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea to restore grain exports. The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, called the proposal to stop strikes on Ukrainian vessels in exchange for Ukraine halting attacks on Russian oil refineries pointless. He also stated that he does not agree to such a mutual cessation of strikes.
