The Russian Federation has launched a combined attack: first, mass drones overwhelm air defenses, then — missiles target the energy sector
GUR warns of the protracted nature of the campaign; among the targets — defense enterprises and administrative buildings, Moscow has refused a ceasefire
May 13 Russia launched a combined airstrike on Ukraine that, according to military intelligence, may continue for a long time, the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported.
“In the first wave the aggressor deploys a significant number of strike drones to overwhelm the air defense system and strike civilian facilities,” the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said in a statement.
After the initial drone attack, intelligence predicts launches of air- and sea-launched cruise missiles, as well as the use of ballistic strike means.
According to GUR, the target priorities of the Russian strikes have been identified as critical infrastructure and life-support systems of large cities, including energy facilities, defense-industrial plants, and government buildings.
The agency emphasizes that, having rejected ceasefire proposals, the Russian side is again attempting to weaken Ukraine’s resilience in the war for freedom by pressuring the civilian sector and defense capabilities.
“GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reminds people of the importance of responding to air raid alerts and using shelters,” the agency stressed.
