They call claiming to be the police and steal all the money: scammers cheated residents of the Mykolaiv region out of hundreds of thousands
"We will save your money!" — said the scammers and took 400 thousand
A 41-year-old resident of the Mykolaiv district went to Police Station No. 5 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department and reported that nearly 100,000 hryvnias had disappeared from her bank card.
The woman said that the day before she received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and warned of an alleged attempt to withdraw money from her account. For “protection of funds” he demanded confidential access codes. After providing these details, all the money disappeared from the account.
Using a similar scheme, nearly 120,000 hryvnias were lost by another 41-year-old resident of Mykolaiv, and a Voznesensk resident aged 40 years handed over nearly 170,000 hryvnias to fraudsters. In both cases, the criminals pretended to be employees of the bank’s security service.
The Mykolaiv region police once again warn:
🔸 Do not disclose any confidential information — PIN code, CVV code, SMS code, card number;
🔸 No one, including the police or the bank, has the right to request such information;
🔸 Do not panic and end the conversation — simply hang up.
🔸 Do not transfer money to any “secure accounts” — this is fraud.
