Over the past week in Mykolaiv specialists of the State Institution «Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine» analyzed 60 samples of ambient air from the city’s monitoring points; in 20 of them they recorded exceedances of maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) of certain pollutants.

Air quality monitoring is carried out on a regular basis at the boundaries of sanitary protection zones and in the residential part of Mykolaiv, which allows prompt tracking of changes in indicators at different locations in the city.

The most noticeable deviations were found in the Inhulskyi district of Mykolaiv, where exceedances of permissible levels were recorded for the following indicators.

  • Undifferentiated dust (not speciated by composition).
  • Formaldehyde.
  • Phenol.
  • Carbon monoxide.

At the same time, studies showed that at all monitoring points the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, phenol and ozone did not exceed established MPCs.

Monitoring of ambient air in Mykolaiv continues on an ongoing basis in order to timely detect potential health risks to the population.
