Police consider a nationality-based motive: Ukrainians were beaten near a store in Wrocław

In Wrocław, Poland, three men brutally beat Ukrainian citizens — Nastya and her boyfriend Maksym. The incident occurred on the evening of July 26, 2026 in the Zakshuv district, near Okulickiego Street. Police are considering a possible nationally motivated attack and are searching for those involved.

The incident was reported on Threads by the victim’s mother, Karina Kitsai, who also published a video of the attack and the aftermath. According to her, the men’s aggression was triggered by a Ukrainian accent they heard in the store. The woman claims the attackers were Poles, but law enforcement has not yet officially reported their identities or citizenship.

According to Radio Wrocław, the conflict began after unknown persons cut in front of the couple, and the girl made a remark to them. Later the men ran out of the store after the Ukrainians and attacked them near a parked car. Maksym was knocked to the ground and kicked, and Nastya, who tried to protect him, received blows to the face and head.

“My daughter suffered serious injuries. Doctors are now stitching her,” — wrote the girl’s mother.

According to the family, both victims are suspected of having a concussion, and the girl had to have a laceration stitched. The young people were taken to the hospital.

On July 27 both Ukrainians officially gave statements to the police. The representative of the Wrocław City Police Department, Aleksandra Freus, said that the circumstances point to a possible national motive for the attack. Law enforcement is establishing the attackers’ identities in order to apprehend them.

The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław has joined the case. At the request of Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, diplomats sent an official inquiry to the Polish police and urged a thorough and prompt investigation to determine motives and bring those responsible to justice.

The victim’s mother appealed to Ukrainians and Poles to share information about the attack so that those involved do not escape punishment.
