Went home to get a knife: In Mykolaiv region, a man stabbed a customer in the chest
In Ochakiv, the victim is in stable but serious condition; the attacker has been detained
On the evening of October 22, a conflict at a shop checkout in Ochakiv, Mykolaiv Oblast, ended with a 29-year-old man being stabbed. An ambulance took the victim to hospital with a chest wound. Police tracked down and detained the attacker within a few hours.
According to the Mykolaiv Oblast Police, a verbal argument first broke out between customers at the shop. Afterward, one of the men went home, took a knife and returned to the shop. He stabbed his opponent in the chest, left the knife at the scene and fled.
Police learned about the incident from a shop employee and medical staff. An investigative team from Police Station No. 7 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department found and seized the knife. It was sent for forensic examination.
Local police, with the assistance of specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department of the Regional Police Headquarters, identified the attacker and located him within a few hours. He was a 58-year-old resident of the city. Investigators detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The victim remains in hospital. Doctors describe his condition as consistently serious.
With the approval of the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office, investigators notified the detainee that he was suspected of committing an intentional serious bodily injury under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for the suspect soon. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
