A man set his psychologist’s car on fire because he was dissatisfied with the psychologist’s work

In the Podilskyi district of Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a man suspected of setting fire to a BMW X5 SUV. The July 27, 2026 incident was reported by the Kyiv police.

A report of a fire on Vyshhorodska Street was received by the 102 emergency line. According to preliminary information, an unknown person smashed the car window with a hammer and then threw a plastic bottle with a flammable mixture into the cabin. Due to the fire, the vehicle suffered significant damage. Patrol officers, rescuers, an investigative team, forensic experts and canine handlers arrived at the scene. Authorities established that the vehicle was used by a 46-year-old Kyiv resident who works as a psychologist in one of the public organizations.

Detectives of the Podil Police Department, with the help of criminal analysis staff, identified the likely arsonist in less than 30 minutes. He turned out to be a 34-year-old Kyiv resident — a former patient of the victim who, according to investigators, was dissatisfied with the psychologist’s work.

The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Podil District Prosecutor’s Office, he was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional destruction or damage to property. For the committed act the suspect faces up to 10 years in prison. The pretrial investigation continues.
