317 votes: The Verkhovna Rada dismissed Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko
Who is serving as acting Prosecutor General is not yet known
15 September the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General. The relevant decision was voted for by 317 members of parliament, according to the broadcast of the parliamentary session.
The day before, President Volodymyr Zelensky suspended Ruslan Kravchenko from his post and urged deputies to promptly support his dismissal. The Speaker of Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk confirmed receipt of the presidential submission to the Verkhovna Rada.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement also approved this submission. At the same time, it is currently unknown who is performing the duties of Prosecutor General after Kravchenko‘s suspension.
During the session, opposition representatives called to restore a competitive selection for the post of Prosecutor General and to give up appointments they called political.
Ruslan Kravchenko submitted his resignation against the backdrop of an investigation by NABU and SAP into possible «protection» of call centres.
14 September Kravchenko said that he had signed a notice of suspicion against the director of NABU, Semen Kryvonos. He also accused NABU and SAP of seizing materials of criminal proceedings against employees of those agencies during searches as part of the special operation “Carthage”.
Sources from “Ukrayinska Pravda” in law enforcement agencies claimed that on the night before 14 September Kravchenko left the country in an official car. He himself said that he was on a business trip.
In the order, a copy of which “Ukrayinska Pravda” obtained, it is stated that Kravchenko sent himself to Paris for five days to participate in PACE hearings dedicated to Ukrainian children. At the same time, his name does not appear in the published speaking schedule for this event.
