A seven-year-old girl in Mykolaiv region was caught on video showing signs of cruelty to a dog
An administrative report was drawn up against the mother and will be referred to court
In one of the communities in Mykolaiv district, police identified the family of a seven-year-old girl after a video showing her actions toward a dog was shared on social media. According to police, the actions showed signs of animal cruelty. The child’s 39-year-old mother was issued an administrative citation for failing to fulfil her parental duties.
On October 29, officers from the Police Department No. 5 of the Mykolaiv District Police Directorate registered information about a video found in a messaging app. The information was entered into the Unified Register of Statements and Reports of Criminal Offences and Other Incidents.
Analysts from the Criminal Analysis Department of the regional police headquarters helped identify the girl in the video and her mother. Officers from the local police department’s patrol police response sector then visited the family’s home.
The family has two German Spitz dogs. Police inspected the animals’ living conditions and spoke with the girl about how to treat dogs appropriately.
The mother was issued an administrative citation under Part 1 of Article 184 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences for parents or their substitutes failing to fulfil their duties in raising children. The citation will be submitted to court, which will review the case materials and issue a decision. The woman faces a fine for this violation.
The mother was also given a preventive talk. She was warned that failing to fulfil parental duties can result not only in administrative but also criminal liability.
