Death from a mine in Kobleve: despite tetrapods and wire, people are making their way onto closed beaches
The ban is in effect along the entire coast of Mykolaiv region, but beachgoers are finding ways through and even going for a swim; two women were injured
Despite the ban, vacationers find ways to access closed beaches of Mykolaiv Oblast, which was reported on the air of ‘Suspilne’ by the acting head of the Mykolaiv OVA, Heorhiy Reshetilov, commenting on the mine explosion in Kobleve, where a man was killed and two women were wounded.
According to the official, access points to the coastal strip are blocked with engineering obstacles and marked with warning signs, but this does not stop some people who knowingly violate the restrictions and take the risk.
“Overall, the recreation area is today equipped with tetrapods, the so-called concrete structures ‘dragon’s teeth.’ There is barbed wire and there are a large number of information signs ‘mine danger.’ Unfortunately, people, ignoring both the warnings and the danger, are now finding certain loopholes to get not only to the beach, but some people try to swim,” said Heorhiy Reshetilov.
The official separately emphasized that the ban on visiting the coast applies to the entire shoreline of Mykolaiv Oblast, not only to popular resort areas.
“I would like to draw attention that across Mykolaiv Oblast — this is not only the Kobleve, Rybakivka, Ochakiv zones, but other coastal areas too — swimming is prohibited. And, unfortunately, today’s tragedy once again confirms to us that these are not just words or unnecessary reminders; this is a real danger,” said Heorhiy Reshetilov.
The incident in Kobleve occurred on a closed beach where a mine detonated: as a result of the explosion a man was killed and two other women were injured.
