E. coli found in drinking water sold by the bottle in Mykolaiv
The sample from Velyka Morska does not meet sanitary standards
In drinking water from the dispensing point at 2 Velyka Morska Street in Mykolaiv, laboratory tests detected E. coli and total coliform bacteria. The results showed that the sample did not meet the microbiological requirements of DSanPiN 2.2.4-171-10. The Main Department of the State Production and Consumer Service in Mykolaiv Region reported this.
Water sold to the public at dispensing points was tested during monitoring on October 26 and 27. Specialists gathered information about the operation of these points and collected samples for laboratory analysis.
The tests covered the following groups of indicators:
- sanitary and chemical;
- microbiological;
- parasitological.
The sample from the dispensing point in question contained:
- total coliform bacteria — 66 CFU per 100 cu. cm;
- Escherichia coli — 28 CFU per 100 cu. cm.
These results indicate microbiological contamination and raise concerns about whether the water is safe to drink. The facility’s manager was sent recommendations to promptly address the violations and ensure that the drinking water meets sanitary and hygiene requirements.
Meanwhile, additional disinfection of the city’s water supply network is ongoing. In connection with this, staff at the drinking water laboratory of Mykolaivvodokanal Municipal Enterprise check the water quality hourly and monitor free chlorine levels.
