Mine warnings did not deter: a man died in the sea near Kobleve

In the morning of 7 August 2026 in the village of Kobleve in the Kobleve Hromada a tragedy occurred. An explosive device detonated in the waters of the Black Sea. A 45-year-old man, who at that moment was in the water, died. This was reported by Heorhii Reshetilov on the Mykolaiv OVA Telegram channel.

During the explosion two women were on the shore and were also injured. A 47-year-old woman received medical assistance on site. A 63-year-old woman was hospitalized. Medics assess her condition as moderate. It is particularly tragic that the dangerous section of the coast had been fenced off. Warnings about mine danger had also been posted there.

In Mykolaiv Oblast, swimming in the sea remains prohibited. The reason – a real danger to life from explosive objects that may be present both on the shore and in the water. Earlier in the spring, authorities and the military warned that access to certain sections of Kobleve’s coastline was restricted due to mine danger.

In July 2026 it was also emphasized: even if sea water quality indicators meet sanitary standards, this does not mean that swimming is safe. The ban on swimming in the water bodies of Mykolaiv Oblast remains in effect.

Residents of the region and tourists are urged not to enter the water, not to go beyond the fences, and not to ignore signs about mine danger. Today’s tragedy in Kobleve once again showed that such warnings are linked to a real threat to life.
