"State of affect" did not convince: a sympathizer of the occupiers was ordered to post nearly 1 million UAH in bail

The Central District Court of Mykolaiv considered a motion to impose a preventive measure on a 60-year-old resident of Kherson. The woman is suspected of justifying and glorifying the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine under parts 2 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the materials of the motion, the suspect repeatedly posted messages in social networks and in publicly accessible chats of Telegram channels in support of the aggressor state.

The investigation believes that in her messages the woman justified the Russian invasion, admired the actions of the Russian army and expressed hopes for the re-occupation of Kherson and the capture of other Ukrainian regions.

She also allegedly called on Russian troops to destroy Ukrainian cities and claimed that a significant portion of Kherson residents support Russia’s aggressive actions.

During the court hearing the prosecutor supported the motion and insisted on applying a preventive measure against the suspect.

The woman herself told the court that she had posted pro-Russian messages while in a state of emotional distress. She assured that she does not intend to hide from the investigation and asked to be placed under house arrest.

The suspect’s defense attorney also asked the court not to apply a preventive measure involving detention.

After examining the case materials and hearing the parties’ positions, investigating judge Volodymyr Lyashchenko ordered that the woman be taken into custody.

At the same time, the court set the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 998,400 hryvnias.
