At the Central District Court of Mykolaiv a verdict was handed down to a 30-year-old local resident and his mother in a case of treason, collaboration with the enemy, and justification of Russian aggression. According to the court, they agreed to work for representatives of the Russian Federation for monetary reward, passing on information about Ukrainian military personnel and infrastructure objects.

The case was considered in a closed session by a panel of judges: Ivan Dirko, Oleksandr Chulup under the chairmanship of Judge Svitlana Skrypchenko.

The court found that the man received an offer from the administrator of one of the anti‑Ukrainian Telegram channels. He was offered to carry out subversive activities against Ukraine — to collect and transmit information about movements and locations of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as well as data regarding critical infrastructure objects.

According to the case materials, the accused systematically collected information and, after Russian attacks, recorded the consequences of the strikes. The obtained materials with geographic coordinates were transmitted to representatives of the aggressor state.

One of the episodes proved particularly tragic. The man sent coordinates marked as a concentration of vehicles with license plates from other regions.

The court concluded that, after this, the Russian Federation carried out a missile strike on an apartment building on Pogranichna Street in Mykolaiv. As a result of the attack, 7 people were killed, among them a 12-year-old boy.

After the strike, the man, together with his mother, acting on the instructions of a Russian representative, drove past the scene of the tragedy and transmitted information about the aftermath of the attack.

The court additionally established that the defendants repeatedly recorded video and audio for propaganda resources. In these materials they claimed alleged support for Russian actions by residents of Mykolaiv, justified the full-scale invasion, and denied the occupation of Ukrainian territories.

Later, these recordings were used for propaganda purposes and posted on the aggressor state’s resources.

For all this activity the man received 16 000 hryvnias, which were transferred from the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson Oblast.

During the trial both defendants pleaded not guilty. However, after examining the evidence and witness testimony, the court concluded that their guilt had been proven.

As a result, the mother and son were found guilty and each was sentenced to — 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
