In Mykolaiv on 10 June 2026, certificates for the purchase of housing were presented to war veterans and members of the families of fallen defenders of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

The event took place as part of the implementation of the state “Heroes Policy”, which is included in Ukraine’s Internal Resilience Plan initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In 2026, the Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine allocated UAH 5.67 billion to provide housing for veterans and their families. These funds are intended to support 2,150 families across the country.

Mykolaiv region received UAH 177.4 million this year. With these funds they plan to provide housing for 71 families of war veterans.

After receiving the housing certificates, families will have six months to choose housing themselves. It can be purchased on either the primary or secondary real estate market — provided that the property has been commissioned.

On that day 38 veterans and their family members received certificates. Among them were servicemen who took part in combat operations on the Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Luhansk fronts, as well as families of fallen and wounded defenders.

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, during the certificate presentation stressed that support for veterans must be real, not formal.

“The President of Ukraine takes a principled position on supporting veterans – the state must fulfill its obligations and provide people with the resources to choose housing independently. My task as the head of the region is to implement this policy as effectively as possible and to mobilize the necessary funding. We are grateful to every defender for their service and are doing everything to ensure that the support is real, not formal”.

The provision of housing to veterans and families of the fallen was named by the OVA as one of the key priorities of state policy. Officials emphasize that this is not only social support but also a restoration of justice for those who defended Ukraine.

The state continues to implement housing programs for veterans and their families in cooperation with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, and with financial support from the European Union under the Ukraine Facility instrument.
