Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Kim reported May 23 2026 on his working visit to the Republic of Korea. According to him, the trip was devoted to issues of the restoration of Ukraine and the Mykolaiv region, and also separately – to the topic of the region’s energy independence.

For Vitaliy Kim this was his first visit to South Korea. During the trip he took part in the Asian Leadership Forum, where the modernization of Ukraine and possible joint projects for the future were discussed. In addition to participating in the forum, the regional head held meetings with representatives of major global companies in the fields of energy, engineering and industry. Among them he named Samsung, Hyundai, LG and other companies.

According to the head of the RMA, after these negotiations there is “measured optimism” about further cooperation. At the same time, so far it is about agreements and discussions, not about already announced specific projects for the region. A separate emphasis during the visit was that South Korea is interested in helping Ukraine technologically and strategically. According to Vitaliy Kim, they discussed the import of technologies, possible investments and the training of specialists who will be needed for the post-war recovery of the country.

The trip also raised the topic of educational cooperation. The regional head reported on talks with the largest engineering university in Korea, which enrolls more than 34,000 students. The talks concerned prospects for Ukrainian students to study in fields necessary for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“In all meetings and interviews with Korean media I emphasized – the partnership between Ukraine and Korea must be long-term, mutually beneficial and technological”, – said Vitaliy Kim.

At the end of the statement Vitaliy Kim thanked the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Korea and Mr. Samuel Kim for their hospitality and support.

For the Mykolaiv region, which has suffered large-scale infrastructure damage due to Russian aggression, issues of energy resilience, technology and workforce training are truly critical. But the region’s residents, who see the consequences of the war and problems with communal infrastructure every day, will expect not only high-sounding international statements, but clear results: which technologies will come to the region, how much money will be attracted, and when communities will feel the impact.
