Given to the army, but quietly: in Mykolaiv again a "closed" distribution of millions
Supported unanimously, but with a caveat: the budget committee is intervening in the allocation of millions
30 April 2026, during the regular session of the Mykolaiv City Council, deputies adopted a decision to allocate more than 69 million hryvnias to support the security and defense forces. These are funds received from the sale of communal property through auctions, which were previously decided to be directed specifically to military needs.
Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych reminded that this practice is already in place and emphasized: funds from privatization should work for the country’s defense. The director of the finance department Vira Sviatelik reported that it is proposed to allocate the remaining funds from the disposal of property in the amount of 69,293,822 UAH for these purposes.
Separately, the mayor drew attention to the distribution mechanism: the deputies vote for the subsidy in a single package, after which the executive committee, already in a closed session, determines exactly what these funds will be spent on for the military.
The head of the budget committee, deputy Fedir Panchenko, during the discussion clarified that the relevant committee unanimously supported the draft decision but added an additional condition:
“Before the executive committee approves the subsidy from the city to the state budget, this issue must first be preliminarily reviewed and agreed upon by the planning and budget commission”
