Medical waste contaminated with blood was buried on the grounds of a medical facility in Mykolaiv
Law enforcement officers are investigating the possible embezzlement of public funds by officials at the institution
Medical waste, including materials contaminated with blood, was found buried on the grounds of one of Mykolaiv’s municipal healthcare facilities. Prosecutors and law enforcement officers discovered it during a search on October 30. As part of a criminal investigation, they are looking into the possible embezzlement of public funds by the facility’s officials.
Investigators found areas on the premises where waste generated during the facility’s operations had been buried. The items included:
- used syringes;
- blood transfusion systems and tubing;
- other medical materials contaminated with blood.
Law enforcement officers are assessing the environmental damage the burials may have caused. They are also determining which officials may have been involved in the violations.
The case is being investigated under the article on misappropriation or embezzlement of property through abuse of office during martial law. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the guilt of any individuals must be established in court.
