Fleet Boulevard in Mykolaiv has been landscaped with 30 new trees
The saplings were donated by the United Nations Development Programme and will be cared for by a municipal enterprise
At Flotskyi Boulevard in Mykolaiv, 30 young maple and willow trees were planted as part of the autumn greening campaign. The trees were added to one of the city’s most popular recreation spots as part of the municipal campaign “Give a Tree to the City”.
All the saplings planted that day were donated to the city by the team of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In total, international partners purchased more than 60 saplings, so the remaining trees are yet to be planted.
The following organizations took part in the autumn greening campaign:
- United Nations Development Programme (UNDP);
- Danish Refugee Council;
- the Save the Children foundation;
- Ukrainian-Danish Youth House.
The partners were brought on board by the Mykolaiv Development Agency, which also coordinated the project.
As Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych explained, the campaign was launched in the spring by specialists from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. At the time, they paid for the saplings themselves and planted them. Support from international partners helped continue the initiative in the autumn.
The following joined the planting alongside the international partners:
- Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych;
- his deputy, Serhii Koreniev;
- director of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Yevhen Poliakov;
- head of the Mykolaiv Development Agency, Ihor Filippov.
According to the mayor, international partners provide ongoing support to Mykolaiv. This assistance mainly goes toward restoring the city’s infrastructure and helping socially vulnerable residents. This time, their contribution was directed toward greening the city.
“Our partners constantly support Mykolaiv in various areas. It is especially nice that today they joined us in greening our city. Thank you for your support. It means a great deal to us,” said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
The newly planted trees have already been fertilized. Specialists from Mykolaiv Parks Municipal Enterprise will provide ongoing care.
