September 30 left a noticeable mark in the shipbuilding history of Mykolaiv: at the Black Sea Shipyard on that day one major stage was completed and another began simultaneously. The date is also connected with the history of the shipyard itself, nearly 3 million UAH for projects in the Korabelnyi District, a well-known Mykolaiv native, and Russian strikes on the city and region.
September 30, 1975: one cruiser launched, another laid down
At the Black Sea Shipyard in Mykolaiv the aircraft-carrying cruiser “Minsk” was launched, and on the same day the next ship in the series, “Novorossiysk”, was laid down on slipway “0”. Thus, September 30, 1975 became a rare day for the Mykolaiv shipyard when, at one enterprise, the slipway stage of building one large ship was practically completed and that of another began almost simultaneously.
September 30, 1981: Yevhen Ivanovych Gashenko born in Mykolaiv
In Mykolaiv Yevhen Ivanovych Gashenko was born — a Ukrainian actor, TV presenter and screenwriter, a regular participant in projects by “Diesel Studio”. He received his higher education at the Mykolaiv branch of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and from 2000 he performed with Yehor Krutoholov and Mykhailo Shynkarenko in the KVN team “Diesel”.
September 30, 1999: the shipyard was officially registered as a state holding
In the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council the State Joint-Stock Holding Company “Black Sea Shipyard” and its subsidiary open joint-stock companies were registered. The State Archive of Mykolaiv Oblast notes that the holding was created on the basis of the state enterprise “ChSZ” in accordance with a government decision and orders of the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine.
September 30, 2019: about 3 million UAH allocated for the Korabelnyi District
“Korabeliv.Info” reported that about 3 million UAH were planned to be directed from the city budget to implement the winning projects of the “Public Budget-2019” in the Korabelnyi District. In particular, exactly 1 million UAH was allocated for a “Health Trail” in Kulbakino, and another 990,000 UAH was planned for the installation of a “Turkish fountain” in Bogoyavlensky Park.
September 30, 2022: a missile struck an apartment building — at least 9 injured
Around 00:56 Russian forces carried out a massive missile strike on Mykolaiv, reportedly using S-300 missiles. After a strike on a residential high-rise, rescuers freed a woman, and another 8 people were wounded — overall at least 9 injured were reported. 4 apartments were completely destroyed, another 6 were partially damaged; a medical facility was also damaged.
September 30, 2024: rail traffic to Mykolaiv temporarily suspended due to an attack
After a nighttime Russian attack on a critical infrastructure facility in Bashtanka district caused a fire, “Ukrzaliznytsia” for safety reasons temporarily closed the Dolynska — Mykolaiv section. “Korabeliv.Info” reported that passengers of train No. 121/122 Kyiv — Mykolaiv were transferred to buses from Dolynska station. That same night, air defense forces over Mykolaiv Oblast destroyed 3 Shahed-131/136 drones.

September 30, 1841 by the modern calendar, in Hadyach Mykhailo Petrovych Drahomanov was born — a historian, publicist, public and political figure. The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory clarifies that by the old style his birthdate was September 18, 1841. And on September 29–30, 1938 in Munich the leaders of Germany, Italy, Great Britain and France agreed to transfer the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany; representatives of Czechoslovakia itself were not involved in the negotiations.
For Mykolaiv September 30 particularly clearly shows different eras of the city: from the time when giant ships were launched and laid down on Mykolaiv slipways at the same time, to the recent history of the Korabelnyi District and the years of the full-scale war.
