29 September left a noticeable mark in the history of the Korabelnyi District and Mykolaiv: on this day a well-known chess player was born, the history of the NARP aircraft repair plant began, an important phase of the MGZ construction was completed, and the foundation of an Armenian church was laid in the district. In 2022 this date became tragic due to a Russian strike on the city.
29 September 1919: Kira Oleksiivna Zvorykina was born in Mykolaiv
The future chess grandmaster Kira Oleksiivna Zvorykina was born in Mykolaiv. She became USSR champion three times — in 1951, 1953 and 1956, won the Candidates tournament in 1959 and in 1960 played the match for the world championship title, and also twice won as part of the national team at the Chess Olympiads.
29 September 1939: the history of the NARP plant began
It is from 29 September 1939 that the history of the Mykolaiv Aircraft Repair Plant “NARP” is traced. A stationary aircraft repair workshop began operating at the pilot school in Mykolaiv, and later the enterprise was relocated to Kulbakino. The State Aviation Museum notes that this date is considered the founding day of the enterprise.
29 September 1981: the third phase of the MGZ was completed
The State Archive of Mykolaiv Oblast recorded that on 29 September 1981 the construction of the third phase of the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant was completed. The first phase of MGZ was commissioned in 1980, the second at the end of the same year, and the fourth was completed in 1982.
29 September 2008: the foundation for “Surb Gevorg” was laid in Korabelnyi
In the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv on 29 September 2008 the foundation was laid for the Armenian Apostolic Church “Surb Gevorg” on Bohoyavlensky Avenue. The church was built with funds from members of the Armenian diaspora from across Ukraine, and its consecration and opening took place in 2012. 29 September 2022: a Russian strike killed 3 people in Mykolaiv
On the evening of 29 September 2022 Russian forces struck a residential area of Mykolaiv with cluster munitions — the explosion occurred near a public transport stop. According to the final data for the day, there were 3 dead and 11 wounded, including a child.
