26 September left several very different pages in the history of the Korabelnyi District and Mykolaiv. On that day the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant (MGZ) halted main production for a large-scale preventive maintenance, the city council demanded saving the shipbuilding plant that owed tens of millions of hryvnias to workers, and all Ukraine bowed its head after the An-26 crash, among the dead of which was a young man from the Korabelnyi District.
26 September 2017: in Mykolaiv they demanded repayment of almost UAH 60 million in debts to shipbuilders
At an extraordinary session of the Mykolaiv city council, deputies supported an appeal to the central authorities over the critical situation at the state shipbuilding enterprise — the former plant named after the 61 Communard, which shortly before had been renamed “Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Plant”. Trade union chairman Mykola Holovchenko reported that wage arrears to employees had reached UAH 59,745,100; another roughly UAH 63 million, he said, the enterprise spent on maintaining the unfinished missile cruiser “Ukraine”. The appeal to the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet and the President was supported by 43 deputies.
26 September 2019: MGZ stopped main production, an electrician was injured during repairs
On the night of 25–26 September 2019 the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant halted its main production processes for a large-scale scheduled preventive maintenance. As Korabeliv.Info reported, during the day repair crews serviced equipment that could not be reached during normal operation of the enterprise. It was on this day that an accident occurred: a high-voltage electrician suffered severe burns to his hands as a result of electric shock. On the night of 27 September the plant began to be restarted, and by morning production was already operating in the usual mode.
26 September 2020: Ukraine mourned those killed in the An-26, among them a young man from the Korabelnyi District
After the crash of the military An-26 that occurred on the evening of 25 September 2020 near Chuhuiv, the following day was declared a day of mourning in Ukraine. Among the cadets on board was 20-year-old Volodymyr Olabin — son of Mykolaiv Regional Council deputy Vadym Olabin and a resident of the Korabelnyi District. Later Korabeliv.Info reported about the family of the deceased cadet and his father’s recollections of his last conversations with his son.
26 September 2025: a Russian drone exploded 800 meters from the South Ukraine NPP
On the night of 26 September 2025 a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle exploded approximately 800 meters from the fence of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant in the Mykolaiv region. That same night, air defense forces over the region destroyed and suppressed 11 Russian UAVs of the Shahed type and drone imitators.

26 September 1936 saw the birth of Yevhen Pronyuk — a Ukrainian philosopher, dissident and political prisoner of the Soviet regime, later head of the All-Ukrainian Society of Political Prisoners and the Repressed, and Hero of Ukraine. In 2026 Ukraine marks the 90th anniversary of his birth.
Thus 26 September combined the industrial history of Mykolaiv, the difficult fate of its shipbuilders, the operation of one of the largest enterprises in the Korabelnyi District and the tragic memory of the young Mykolaiv cadet.
