An explosive device detonated at sea: a married couple died in the Mykolaiv region

In the Kobleve community on September 12, a married couple died as a result of an explosion in the waters of the Black Sea. Their underage daughter and another woman were injured.

A report about the explosion of an unknown object in the water near Kobleve was received by the emergency line 102 at about 13:10. At the scene the investigative-operational team of the Police Department No. 8 of the Mykolaiv District Administration established that an explosive device detonated in the sea.

At that time a 43-year-old man and his 42-year-old wife were in the water. They sustained injuries incompatible with life. Their 16-year-old daughter and another 40-year-old woman were on the shore and were also injured.

Investigators provisionally classified the incident under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with the note “Accident”. The police explained that this procedure is followed in similar cases. The circumstances of the explosion are being established.
